1. Discovery Sports Club (DSC)

1.1 The DSC Executive is responsible for maintaining the clubhouse and supporting the various Club sections (Cricket, Rugby, Soccer and Social sections).

1.2 The Soccer Section President is automatically a member of the DSC Executive unless he/she appoints someone else from the soccer executive to fill this role.

2. Soccer Section

2.1 Soccer maintains its own Section Executive (herein called the executive), which is responsible for organizing and supporting teams and to also to support the DSC as a whole.


3. Players

3.1 Player's responsibilities are to:

  • Support DSC and Soccer section.
  • Pay their annual membership dues according to the specified schedule outlined by the Executive.
  • Pay any bank charges associated with NSF cheques.
  • Attend practice sessions and games.
  • Assist in fund raising events.
  • Support their Coach, Manager, Teammates and Team Representative.
    Return all equipment in good order at the end of the season.
    Represent Castaways and the DSC in accordance with FIFA's Fair Play campaign.

3.2 Players may play on other Castaways FC teams at the discretion of his/her Coach and in accordance with League Rules and Regulations.

4. Equipment

4.1 Responsibility

1. The Equipment Director on the Soccer Executive is responsible for managing all Castaways equipment and jerseys.

2. Equipment assigned to a team is the responsibility of the Team Manager or Coach and must be returned at the end of each season to the Equipment Director.

4.2 Inventory

1. Inventory of each team’s equipment is taken at the beginning of the season and is distributed to the team, by the Equipment Director.

2. At the completion of the season, equipment is collected and inventoried by the Equipment Director. A report is presented to the Executive of what equipment has not been returned or has not been returned in good order.

3. Equipment distributed to each team includes:

Jerseys (one jersey for each member of the team)
Goal Net (1)
Net Bag (1)
Corner Flags (2)
Practice Balls (12)
Ball Bag (1)
Game Ball (1)
Indoor Ball (1)
Goal Anchors(2)

4. The Equipment Director will provide teams with additional equipment if it is required by their league. (ie. the Premier Women’s Team needs 2 nets and 2 net bags)

5. Goalie gloves can be purchased by a team, to a maximum of $75 once a season. Teams will be reimbursed for this amount if the funds are available.

4.3 Replacement/Purchase

1. Equipment is replaced at the discretion of the Soccer Executive.

2. Requests for equipment must be submitted by the Team Representative to the Equipment Director, who will present the request to the Soccer Executive.

3. Equipment being replaced must be turned into the Equipment Director before new equipment is assigned.

4. The Soccer Executive must approve all jersey purchases. The current jersey is Admiral Pinnacle in royal blue and black.


4.4 Lost Equipment

1. All equipment must be returned to the Equipment Director at the completion of each team’s season.

2. Equipment not returned will either be paid for or replaced by the team.

3. The executive may hold back team fundraising money until all equipment is returned.

4. If equipment is not paid for or replaced by the team, then the executive may choose not to replace it.

5. Replaced equipment, no matter how funded, is the property of Castaways FC.

4.5 Disposal

1. Equipment may only be disposed of by the Equipment Director as directed by the Soccer Executive.

4.6 Ownership

1. All equipment is property of Castaways FC.

4.7 Jerseys

1. Castaways FC jersey colours are royal blue and black.

2. Teams may only wear Executive approved jerseys during league games.

5. Fields/Gyms


5.1 Responsibility

1. Practice fields/gyms are arranged and paid for by the Soccer Executive.

2. Game fields for men’s teams are arranged and paid for by the Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL)

3. Game fields for women’s teams are arranged and paid for by the Soccer Executive.

5.2 Practices

1. Practice time guidelines are as follows:

  • All teams are entitled to a minimum of 2 practice sessions of 1 hour in length each week.
  • All teams may have the opportunity for practice time at all of the facilities that Castaways FC has permits for.

2. A member of each team must carry the permits for the facility they are practicing on.

3. Teams may not enter the practice facility until their designated practice time.

4. If a team decides they are not going to use a practice facility in any given week, they must contact the Field/Gym Coordinator as soon as possible.

5. Teams may not practice on fields that Castaways FC do not hold permits for.

6. If a team does not want to have 2 practices a week, they must inform the Field/Gym Coordinator, before March 31st for the upcoming season.


5.3 Field Conditions

1. Teams may not practice or play a game on a field if using it will cause damage to the field. This is left up to the discretion of the team, coach, and referee.

2. Teams may not practice or play on fields, which have been closed.

3. Fields can be closed with very little notice, pending inclement weather or poor field conditions so team reps must be responsible for being in communication with the Fields Coordinator on practice days.


6. Conduct

6.1 Members are expected to display professional sportsman-like behavior while representing Castaways FC and the Discovery Sports Club.

6.2 Members must abide by the Rules and Regulations of the DSC and Soccer Section, as well as any rules associated with fields, gyms or any facilities being utilized by Castaways FC.

6.3 The governing soccer organizations (LIWSA and VISL) are responsible for player discipline associated with regular season games (e.g. red/yellow cards).

6.4 All matters of conduct will be addressed by the Soccer Executive and may result in any individual or team losing section privileges or membership.

7. Tournaments

7.1 Equipment may be used for tournaments during the regular season and off-season. All equipment must be signed out with the Equipment Director and returned in full and in good working condition to the Equipment Director after the tournament.

8. Membership/Privileges

8.1 Discovery Sports Club (DSC)

1. The Discovery Sports Club (DSC) is the parent organization for Castaways FC, Rugby and Cricket sections. Being registered on a Castaways soccer team implies automatic membership with the DSC. This membership is mandatory and is included in the yearly soccer registration dues.

2. DSC Club membership provides members the following privileges:

  • Services offered at the DSC during regular business hours. Including darts, bar service, big screen TV, snacks, and 24 hour weight room.
  • Access to all DSC social functions.
  • Vote at the DSC Annual General Meetings.
  • Use of Club house for private social events (booked through the Clubhouse Manager)

8.2 Soccer Section

1. Registered soccer players are automatically members of the Soccer Section within the Discovery Sports Club (DSC).

2. Registration provides members the following privileges:

  • DSC Club Membership.
  • Play under the Castaways name.
  • Use of Castaways FC equipment, fields and gyms.
  • Participate on the Soccer Executive, if desired.
  • Vote at the Castaways FC Annual General Meeting.
  • Sponsorship Support.
  • Use of Castaways FC position in the VISL or LIWSA league(s).

8.3 League

1. Once registered with a Castaways soccer team, a player is automatically affiliated with their governing soccer organization, as well as with BCSA (BC Soccer Association).

  • Women’s League: Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association (LIWSA)
  • Men’s League: Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL)

9. Registration

9.1 League Registration

1. Men’s teams are required to pay a registration deposit $200 to their league (VISL). This is due in July 15th. The balance of league registration fees are paid in August at the VISL general meeting. Men's Team Managers are responsible for contacting the Treasurer to obtain the cheques payable to VISL.

2. Women’s teams do pay a deposit of $50 per team due June 30th 2008, and must pay registration fees in full to their league (LIWSA) in August at the LIWSA general meeting. Women's Team Managers are responsible for contacting the Treasurer to obtain the cheque payable to LIWSA.

9.3 Player Registration

1. Player Registration forms are paid for by the Treasurer and managed by the Castaways Registrar.

2. Men’s forms are obtained and submitted on the VISL website.

3. Women’s forms are obtained from the LIWSA. Women's Team Managers are responsible for obtaining these from the LIWSA.

4. A specific date, generally in early September, is designated by the executive to register team members (“Sign-up Night”).

5. Individuals wishing to register on a Castaways soccer team must pay their dues in accordance to the schedule set out by the Treasurer (ie. Either in full or under the specified payment plan), in order to receive a Player Registration Form. It is mandatory for any player to complete and submit a Player Registration Form prior to playing in the regular season.

6. Completed Player Registration forms are handled by the Registrar.


10 Dues

10.1 Discovery Sports Club (DSC)

1. Club Membership dues are set annually by the DSC Executive and must be renewed on a yearly basis.

2. Club dues are included in the annual soccer registration fee.

3. The Soccer Executive is responsible for paying Club membership dues for all registered soccer members, to the DSC Executive, no later than December 1st each year.

4. The Soccer Executive is responsible for paying Club membership dues on behalf of coaching staff each year.

10.2 Soccer Section Dues

1. Players must pay their dues in accordance to the schedule set out by the Treasurer (ie. Either in full or under the specified payment plan), in order to receive a Player Registration Form. It is mandatory for any player to complete and submit a Player Registration Form prior to playing in the regular season.
Players must pay for their registration form prior to completing it.

2. Dues are $200 for the season. This how the money is allocated:

Category Men
$29 player permit
$40 DSC dues
$131 VISL fees, BCSA fees, field rentals

Category Ladies
$26 player permit
$40 DSC dues
$134 LIWSA fees, BCSA fees, field rentals

3. Cheques are made payable to “Castaways FC”.

4. If dues are not paid in full, or if a cheque, or post dated cheque results in a NSF charge, the executive will decide if the player will be allowed to continue to play on his/her team. A player may be suspended from participating in games until repayment is made.

5. Players registering after September must cover at least the following:

  • Club membership
  • Player Registration Form
  • Their portion of the remaining costs for referees, fields, gyms and any other administrative costs incurred by individual teams, at a pro-rated level as determined by the executive.

6. Requests asking for delayed payment or reduction of fees, must be made in writing and will be reviewed and voted on by the Executive, on an individual basis.

7. The executive can negotiate separate dues for teams under special circumstances.


10.3 Reimbursement

1. The Soccer Executive may, at its discretion, reimburse players a portion of their fee in the event they are unable to complete the season (e.g. injury, relocation). Requests must be submitted in writing to the Executive (through the appropriate Team Representative) and reviewed on an individual basis.

2. In general, reimbursement to any player should not be at a cost to the Soccer Section. Therefore, signed players must absorb the cost of their registration form, their Club Dues (if already paid to the Club) and any other referee, field, gym and/or administrative costs already incurred.

3. Club dues are non-refundable.

4. Refunds will not be given after December 31st.

11 Sponsors

11.1 General

1. Sponsorship is coordinated through the Sponsorship Director.

2. Sponsors must be approved by the Soccer Executive.

3. A Sponsor’s name is attached to the team name after ‘Castaways’ (e.g. ‘Castaways Company Name’)

4. Cheques written from sponsors must be made out to “Castaways FC”.

5. Sponsors must apply for sponsorship using the form provided by the Sponsorship Director.

11.2 Sponsorship

1. Sponsors must choose a package from the Sponsorship form.

2. Sponsorship money is allocated 100% to the Soccer Section, general revenue.

3. The entire sponsorship amount is paid to ‘Castaways FC’.

4. All sponsorship cheques must have cleared the bank before any purchases/payments earmarked for that sponsorship money is transacted.

5. Multiple sponsors are permitted, if the other Sponsor(s) for that team mutually agree.

6. As a general rule, sponsorship should not be obtained from businesses that would require our participation and hinder or affect the revenue and/or the social atmosphere of the DSC.

11.3 Equipment / Jerseys

1. A Sponsor’s name/logo should be printed or embroidered on a crest, which will then be sewn onto team jerseys. Sponsor’s names will not be permanently attached/printed onto team jerseys.

11.4 Advertising

1. Sponsor’s names are displayed upon request of the Sponsor, using banners approved by the Soccer Executive, at regular season games and applicable tournaments.


12 Fund Raising

12.1 Responsibility

1. All Club fund raising events are coordinated through the Fund Raising Director.

2. All players from all teams are encouraged to participate in any Club or Soccer fund raising event. Teams consistently failing to participate may, at the discretion of the Soccer Executive, may lose some section privileges.

12.2 Team Fund Raising

1. Teams are encouraged to hold their own fund-raising events, providing it does not detract from the fund-raising initiatives of the executive.

12.3 Accounts

1. Financial transactions associated with fund raising events are to be accounted for separately so that detailed financial statements can be presented to the Soccer Executive.

13 Discipline

13.1 Responsibility

1. All disciplinary actions are decided upon through the voting executive members.

13.2 Rules

1. Each Team Representative must be present at each monthly Soccer Executive meeting. Failure to attend this meeting will result in a $20 per meeting team fine. The fine(s) are payable at the end of the regular soccer season, ie: March, and are payable to Castaways FC.

2. Abuse of practice facilities will result in loss of use or suspension of these facilities. The length of suspension will be relevant to the abuse, and is up to the discretion of the executive. In addition, the offending team will be responsible for paying for any lost or un-useable facility time.

3. Members who bring guests to the DSC are responsible for their actions, and should make them aware of the DSC etiquette. Should there be any abuse of property, theft or damage, the member is responsible for compensation to the DSC.

14 Club Culture

14.1 Promotion

1. All Club members are encouraged to promote the DSC by actively recruiting new members.

14.2 Memorabilia

1. Pictures, trophies, awards etc are passed to the DSC Executive, through the Soccer President, for display in the DSC Clubhouse.
